Angela and John were married on 25 July 2015 at Agios Charalombos, Exo Gonia in Santorini Greece.
Angela and John were on their honeymoon in Greece when we first started talking. They captured the first ever “mid-wedding” selfie that I have ever seen and sent it to me because they knew I would LOVE it.
I asked Angela if I could share the selfie pic with my readers and also do a feature about their wedding story. The newlywed couple haven’t received their professional photos back yet so the only photos that we have access to have been taken from everybody’s phone. I’ll be sure to share some of the professional photos once they get developed.
Angela & John had a destination wedding on the Island of Santorini in Greece. Here is more about their wedding story:
How did you and John meet?
We met on the night of 27/02/2008. We we’re street car racing in Liverpool Sydney. Once I had his attention, we pulled over near our local shops and spent the remaining of the night talking. We exchanged numbers but I made him chase me for whole month before we started going out.
What did you love about your wedding day?
Having a traditional Greek wedding has always been my dream, ever since I was a young girl. The church service was amazing and married the love of my life in Santorini.
Tell me more about your day…
We had a donkey take me up to the reception after the Church and we had our own helicopter take us around Santorini before the party. We got to smash plates, have a live Greek band, a dj and we danced with professional Greek dancers which made the night magical and memorable.
Did you include any Greek Traditions on your wedding day?
We had the krevati two weeks before we left for Greece.
On the day of the wedding we did the money in the shoe tradition, just before I put my shoes on. The koumbaro prepared the groom and my koumbara prepared me on the day. I wore an evil eye and a cross on my dress, we were crowned with our stefana in the Church service and I also used the tradition of having something new, old, borrowed, and blue on my day.
Where is your family from?
We are both Australian born, from Sydney but we have a Greek background. Our parents are from Peloponnisos, Pygos Ilias and John’s dad is from Tripoli.
Why did you decide to have a destination wedding?
We decided to marry in Greece as my “husband” has never been overseas before. He wanted to know our parents history of where they came from. The last time I visited Greece was 14 years ago. I missed my grandparents and my family dearly and I wanted to have the wedding in Greece so that all my family can see me get married.
It was impossible for my Grandparents to come to Australia for the wedding, so i made it possible for them. I’ve always wanted to get married in Greece. I told my parents from when I was a child.
Does it sound funny when you call him your husband now?
Yes it does sound strange, I have been calling him my parter for 5 years then my fiance for 2 years and now my husband for 1 month…
I must that it had its moments where any couple fight on organizing the wedding so John left it all up to me. We also had the help of our wedding planner Maria. If it wasnt for her, it wouldn’t have happened they way it did.
It took us a long time to plan everything. We started organising it from November 2013 up until the wedding day. But it was well worth it!
What did Maria do for you?
She planned everything hehehe the list is never ending.
