It is important to remember that Greek Orthodox religion is not the same as Greek culture.

Religion and culture can often overlap but they are still inherently different. A person maybe of Orthodox religion but not of Greek culture just as a person can follow Greek traditions and not be of the Orthodox religion.

The Orthodox religion is well documented and you can ask any priest about the sacrament of marriage and you will get a straight answer to your question.

This blog is different.  Greek Weddings and Traditions focuses on the traditions of Greek culture and all the rituals that Greek people do before and after the actual ceremony. These traditions can mean different things to different people. They may also change or differ depending on which island or country you are from. Most cultural traditions have been passed down from generation to generation and as that happens our cultural experiences are also influenced by the times in which we live.

Here are a few links websites that relate more directly to Greek Orthodox religion

  • Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia
  • The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America
  • Ancient Faith Radio
