Eugenia Panathos is the author of the book Greek Life a beautiful book about the when, why and how of Greek Culture. The book commences with the story of family, cultural events from January to December and followed by life events, love, engagements, weddings births, deaths, food and more.
In this article Eugenia shares her story about why she decided to write her book…
“My inspiration for writing Greek Life was to embrace the lessons shared by my parents and to pass forward the beautiful, symbolic, and unique Greek way of life. My vision was for a high quality, hardback, timeless cultural cookbook that is a true celebration of time-honoured Greek customs, culture and recipes. It is a keepsake, a reference book, a guide, a cookbook and inspires readers with thought-provoking philosophy as well as providing a beautiful visual journey with the full colour photography. My dream was to bring to fruition the highest quality book on Greek culture that takes readers on a journey of self-discovery.
Having a vision for a high quality, timeless cookbook that celebrates Greek culture, and then to actually bring that book to fruition, as a self-published author has been an exciting journey. I have been moved by the messages received from my readers who have expressed quite profoundly what Greek Life means to them. I have been thanked with deep gratitude for bringing this book forth.
I knew there was a market for my book, but I really did not expect the outpouring and sharing of love and support. I must say seeing and holding the first copy of Greek Life is a moment I will never forget. Walking into bookstores and seeing copies on the shelf facing out has been inspiring and unforgettable. The support I have received from my stockists has been wonderful, and I shall remain eternally grateful to each of them for embracing my book. Importantly, being able to share the launch of Greek Life with my father, husband, daughters, extended family and friends and to be blessed by their love and support has been a truly humbling experience.
The recipes included in Greek Life are precious and authentic family recipes that are representative of the Mediterranean Diet. A lifestyle more than a diet, that is based on a high intake of vegetables, legumes, fruits, fish and olive oil, with limited amounts of red meat, poultry and dairy, however a glass of wine is enjoyed with food! Socialising is as important as the nutrient rich food itself, and combined these factors all contribute to the wonderful and protective health benefits of the Greek way of Life.”
